This time it's war

This one sheet was supposedly withdrawn by the studio after Sigourney Weaver objected to the image of her toting the pulse rifle/flamethrower bundle as she is known to be staunchly anti-firearms.

Several hundred copies of the poster must have survived the withdrawal and have made their way into collectors hands. I owned a reprint of this poster before I started collecting original one sheets and the quality of the reprint was atrocious.

If anyone has any more details on this please get in touch

Thank you for the fine resolution Images of my ALIENS poster (and credits). Evidently there was some confusion due to some very minor changes made after 20th Century-Fox had approved my original artwork without my knowledge. The finished poster is 99.9% my creation and I appreciate your verification of this fact.

    Some background and interesting tidbits:

The best image of Signourey Weaver holding the little girl and the top of the gun was a 70mm frame from the film stock so it was quite grainy.

I created everything else with scraps of background stuff and made the Alien Eggs glowing as they are opening menacingly as a homage to the first ALIEN poster “In Space no one can hear you Scream” written by my friend Dan O’Bannon, by the way. Nothing could be “too sharp” because the 70MM film stock image was so grainy when blown up.

Mike Salisbury, who I had worked with 20+ years, said that the Studio would never buy the concept. They were leaning towards a ‘Marines vs. Aliens’ Shoot-out/ Action approach.

I did it as a ‘long shot’ because I knew James Cameron liked (A) strong female lead character and (B) the Blue/ Black/ White minimalist palette he used shooting “The Terminator” and “The Abyss”. And (C) it was “Mother vs. Mother” in the “Battle of the Species”!!! I

So I patched it all together for what I still consider one of my better Art/ Creations. One of my pencil sketch comps was sold for over a $1000 inn Auction in the UK two years.ago. A poster signed by Weaver $2500.. Even an original One sheet poster sells for nearly $1000 if you can find one.

After the Studio bought my Design/ Concept, we had a duplicate COPY cibachrome print made of my Original. I airbrushed the “I” on for the ALIENS Title to be mechanically stripped in (Pre-Photoshop)

My Original Artwork was bought recently by Ben Stevens, a renowned Collector of Movie Poster Art and Owner of Galactic Gallery in Flower Mound, TX (near Dallas) where it will be exhibited next to the 12′ tall ALIEN Queen used in the movie, 50+ Drew Struzan Originals and Artworks by the finest contemporary Artists of Movie Poster History.
